Accounting (ACCT)
The Accounting Option prepares students for careers in the preparation, reporting, audit, analysis, and use of financial information. This program helps prepare graduates to earn their CPA, CMA, and other professional certifications. Many graduates of the ACIS department desire to become licensed or gain certification in their selected area of specialization. Licensure as a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) is the best known. Students planning to sit for the CPA exam and ultimately become licensed in a particular state must meet the respective eligibility and licensure requirements of that state. Please note that these requirements vary by state and Virginia Tech recommends contacting the State Board of Accountancy in the state in which they wish to pursue licensure to ensure they understand the requirements. Additionally, students should discuss with their advisor the several options and specific courses and electives Virginia Tech provides for meeting the requirements to sit for the CPA exam and for licensure.
Information Systems Audit (ISA)
This program extends the Accounting major by adding additional training related to the information systems aspects of accounting and auditing. It can help prepare students to become information systems auditors. It helps provide preparations for students to earn their CPA, CISA (Certified Information Systems Auditor), and other professional certifications.
